We shape gardens across London, Essex and Hertfordshire, combining skilled construction, thoughtful detailing, naturalistic planting and carefully chosen outdoor products to create spaces that feel complete.
Our founder, Robert Grimstead, has spent nearly three decades creating gardens with strong bones, generous planting and a clear sense of purpose. His work balanced clean geometry with softer, naturalistic planting, always with an eye for how a space would be used as much as admired.
And yet, they didn’t always feel finished.
However carefully composed, however finely built, many gardens still needed the final layers that bring them to life. Furniture that belongs. Shade that moves with the day. Lighting that transforms the mood at night. Places to cook, gather, pause and stay outside a little longer.
Over time, Robert became increasingly frustrated by how difficult it was to source these elements. The best pieces were scattered across the globe, often found through trade fairs, quiet introductions, long email chains and chance discoveries. So, with his partner Sarah, he began to bring them together: a one-stop shop for design professionals and discerning clients alike, shaped by more than ten years of cool hunting and a genuine excitement for the brands, materials and details that make outdoor spaces exceptional.
What began as a late-night conversation, set against the familiar background noise of family life, soon became something much more tangible. Together, Robert and Sarah imagined a place where clients, architects and garden designers could explore not only stone, planting and construction details, but also the furniture, shade, lighting, kitchens and finishing touches that turn a garden into somewhere to live.
That vision led them to a disused barn on the banks of the River Lea.
Restored with care, the barn became Nu Eden: part studio, part showroom, part stage for outdoor living. Today it brings together outdoor kitchens, louvred pergolas, furniture, lighting, fire, water, planters, stone and planting in a setting that feels less like a shop and more like a garden beginning to tell its story.
Nu Eden remains a family business at heart, but it is also a collaborative one. Our work brings together landscape professionals, craftspeople, designers, suppliers and clients, all working towards the same end: gardens with atmosphere, purpose and permanence.
Because a garden is not truly finished when the building work stops.
It is finished when it feels like home.
